What is Get Checking?
Get Checking is a program designed to offer individuals the chance to open a checking account. This is even if you have had problems with a checking account due to past mistakes, or just need guidance on how to go about using a checking account.
Family Credit Management Services is pleased to be able to offer this service for no charge.
Why Get Checking?
- You are having problems opening a bank account due to past mistakes.
- You have never opened an account and do not know where to start.
- You are having difficulty managing your checking account.
Why Do I Need a Checking Account?
Having an account is:
- A more convenient way to handle your money.
- A good way to save money on check cashing services and money orders.
- A way to access other financial services, such as loans.
What Will I Learn?
- How to avoid paying costly fees and find lower cost checking options.
- What you need to know to keep your checking account balanced.
- How to choose an account that is right for you.
- How responsible management of your bank account can help you establish credit and access other bank services.
Will I Be Able to Open an Account After the Class?
Once you have completed the Get Checking course, you will receive a certificate of completion. To open your account, present your certificate and proper identification to a participating financial institution.
Note: if you have outstanding fees from a prior account, you must settle that acocunt before opening a new one. If you need assistance with paying older debts, please contact a Certified Credit Counselor at Family Credit Managment. Please know Financial Institutions are not required to open an account if there has been evidence of fraud on a prior account. If you have questions about possible fraud, we will review your ChexSystems report with you, in private, before class begins.
How Do I Register?
- Call or register online to reserve your class date and time. Seating is limited.
- Call ChexSystems at 800-428-9623 or go to www.chexhelp.com to order your ChexSystems Report. You must bring this report to class. (This information will remain confidential.)
- You will receive confirmation of your class date and time by mail.
