Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

Losing a home can be financially and personally devastating. Family Credit Management Services is an ISO registered non-profit state licensed credit counseling agency. We have been providing consumers with financial education and credit counseling services nationwide for over a decade.

If you are struggling to pay your mortgage, falling behind on payments, or living in fear of your next mortgage interest rate adjustment our credit and housing counselors may be able to help.

The most important step is to act as quickly as possible.

Once you contact Family Credit Management Services, your housing counselor may be able to:

  • Review your financial situation and determine which options are available to you.
  • Explain the pro's and con's of each option and discuss which workout appears most suitable for you and your family, based on your individual circumstances.
  • Negotiate with your lender and discuss your circumstances to arrange a plan acceptable to both you and the lender.
  • Work with you through our credit counseling service to create a realistic household spending plan to make sure you can afford your fixed expenses going forward.
  • Refer you to other social service agencies or programs in your area that provide financial, legal, medical, utility assistance, etc.(where possible)
  • If necessary, offer debt help by reviewing and restructuring your unsecured (credit card) debt through our Crossroads Debt Management Plan.

Be aware of foreclosure prevention scams!

Anytime your dealing with money you must use caution.

We recommend not working with an agency who:

  • Asks for an up-front fee before providing you with any services. Legitimate housing counselors rarely charge a fee for foreclosure prevention assistance
  • Tells you to send a mortgage payment to them (you should never send payments to anyone other than your lender).
  • Asks you to sign your house deed over to them.
  • Is pushy or rushes you into signing an agreement.
  • Guarantees they can save your home.
  • Does not thoroughly review your individual situation.
  • Cannot clearly explain the steps to be taken to save your home.
  • Is not state licensed, or HUD certified.

If you would like to discuss your situation with a housing counselor, please contact our Housing Counseling Department Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 12:00 am Friday 8:30 am to 7:00 pm CST at 1-800-994-3328.
